Welcome to episode 206 of the Mile 40 Podcast. Five days before the New York City Marathon, we sit down with Jerry Francois, a Brooklyn-based distance runner, USATF-certified coach, and founder of Goldfinger Track Club. Jerry found the sport at 18 and has since become a 2:41 marathoner who helps runners of all levels reach new goals.

Jerry grew up in Bushwick with a single mother who could not work because of a disability, and he learned early how to hustle and keep a smile on his face. When he lost her at 17, running became the one place that felt good. We talk about graduating with no one in the stands, surviving college on very little, finding a home in New York’s run club scene, and turning a last-minute relay team into a club that welcomes everyone.

Jerry “Coach J” Francois is a Brooklyn-based distance runner, USATF-certified coach, and founder of Goldfinger Track Club (GFTC), a community-driven running club he founded in 2016. A lifelong runner who found the sport at 18, Coach J has gone on to become a 2:41 marathoner, completing races around the world while helping runners of all levels reach new goals. For the past decade, he has used running to build community, create opportunities, and prove that the sport has space for all paces and all faces. Beyond the miles, Coach J is a father, entrepreneur, and passionate advocate for making running more accessible, inclusive, and connected.
