Welcome back to episode 184 of the Mile 40 Podcast. On this episode, host Bishoy Tadros sits down with Steve Yellen, a marketing executive, athlete, author, and Parkinson's advocate who was diagnosed with the disease in his mid-50s. Steve shares his journey from a data-driven, self-proclaimed "science geek" to finding new purpose after his diagnosis.

Together, they explore themes of personal growth, resilience, and the transformative power of turning life’s setbacks into a calling.

Listeners will hear how Steve leveraged his analytical background and love for challenges to take control of his health making fitness and research central to his life, competing in events like triathlons and obstacle course races, and immersing himself in Parkinson’s advocacy.

Through candid conversation, Bishoy and Steve reflect on the evolution of maturity, the importance of family, and how a difficult diagnosis can ignite a new sense of purpose, not just for oneself, but for an entire community.

Whether you’re facing your own setbacks or seeking inspiration to redefine your purpose, this episode delivers valuable insights and heartfelt lessons on embracing the journey and the power of living audaciously.

Diagnosed with Parkinson’s in his mid-50s, Steve turned to data, research and personal experimentation to understand and manage the disease. Knowing that exercise is the only potential way to slow progression, he made fitness central to his life, training daily and competing in triathlons and obstacle course races (e.g., Spartans) and even racing up the Empire State Building stairs.
Beyond personal health and wellness, Steve is deeply involved in Parkinson’s advocacy and research.
Living Parkinson’s shares the strategies and real-life stories that have helped Steve and others live full lives with Parkinson’s.
Steve lives in Connecticut and actively promotes the Living Parkinson’s message.
