Welcome to Episode 201 of the Mile 40 Podcast! Bishoy sits down with Jake Eckhaus, GM at Meatpacking Athletic under Club Athletic, currently training for his first New York City Marathon, for a conversation about identity, structure, and the health scare that changed the direction of his entire life.

Jake traces his path from a baseball career that ended by choice in college, through a six-and-a-half-year run in enterprise sales at WeWork, to a diagnosis of Eosinophilic Esophagitis that reshaped his relationship with alcohol, caffeine, and his own schedule.

He opens up about the emergency room scare that led to the diagnosis, the eight months of going cold turkey that followed, and how early mornings at the gym slowly became the foundation for a full career change into fitness and wellness.

Along the way, Jake reflects on quitting a stable corporate job with no plan lined up, the financial planning that made the leap possible, and why the fitness community surprised him with how supportive it actually was.

Through candid reflections and relatable anecdotes, Jake and Bishoy explore themes of resilience, adaptation, and finding purpose across different phases of life. Whether you’re an athlete, a professional in transition, or someone seeking your own comeback story, this episode offers real-life lessons on embracing change and leaning into community.

Jake is a 33 year-old New York City-based fitness and wellness professional who took an unexpected turn in his career after being diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis. For over 10 years, he built his career in Enterprise Sales, but his diagnosis led him to reevaluate his love for and approach towards health, wellness, and fitness.

What started as a personal journey quickly became a passion. He learned more about how training, nutrition, recovery, and lifestyle all work together, and realized he wanted to dedicate his career to helping others pursue better health and performance.

Jake is the General Manager at Meatpacking Athletic under Club Athletic. Today, he is focused on creating an environment where people can train with purpose, build sustainable habits, community, and feel their best. Outside of work, he is putting that philosophy into practice as he trains for the 2026 NYC Marathon, continuing to explore the ever-evolving world of fitness, wellness, and nutrition.
